In 2013, Myra Janco Daniels, founder and former CEO of the Philharmonic Center for the Arts in Naples, Florida, responded to the plight of more than 11,500 school children in Collier County who came home every day to an empty house. Mrs. Daniels agreed to chair a capital campaign to raise $5 million for the construction of The Salvation Army’s Fran Cohen Youth Center. The Center was officially dedicated in April 2017 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, Latchkey League members, Salvation Army representatives and many others.
The mission of the Latchkey League, Inc. is to support educational, cultural and recreational services to children in Collier County who need after-school supervision and activities. Particular emphasis shall be given to the arts.
Latchkey League offers fundraising opportunities throughout the season to financially support latchkey children attending after-school programs which provide opportunities for kids to learn dance, music, art and theater in addition to actively mentoring and tutoring them where possible.
Latchkey League became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2015 to continue supporting the Fran Cohen Youth Center and expand its ability to help more children by providing grants to eligible Collier County organizations offering after-school programs.
